Program Basics
What age/stage is this program for? This program is designed for moms-to-be in their 2nd trimester through the 5th trimester (meaning babies up to about 6 months old who are being carried).
How long is each outing? Each outing runs 2 hours (9:30-11:30 a.m.), giving plenty of time for hiking, moms' circle, nature activities, and connection.
What's included in each outing? Every outing includes a moms' circle focused on self-care and new motherhood, a nature scavenger hunt, learning about the forest, occasional journaling, and a simple take-home activity. For those interested, there's optional social time afterward at a nearby café.
Scheduling & Locations
How often do outings meet? Outings are held every other Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., with a total of 5 outings per season.
How many outings are in a season? Each season includes 5 outings total (winter, spring, summer, and fall).
Do you visit the same location each week? No! We explore different beautiful Peninsula and South Bay locations each outing. All locations are within a 30-40 minute drive from Mountain View (aiming for 30 minutes when possible).
How difficult are the hikes? Hikes are 2-4 miles of gentle to moderate difficulty, with stops for diaper changes, breastfeeding, and snacks.
When will I know the schedule and locations? A detailed schedule with specific dates and locations will be shared one month before each season begins.
When are the winter 2026 outings? Winter 2026 outings are: January 10, January 24, February 7, February 21, March 7
Registration & Fees
How much does the program cost? The fee is $275 per season, which includes all 5 outings.
Can I bring my partner? Yes! Partners are absolutely welcome. I want to help moms build community, and if you need your partner to help you get out the door and on the trail, that's 100% OK.
Can I bring my toddler/older child? This program is designed specifically for moms carrying babies (2nd trimester through 5th trimester). For families with older children, please check out our Toddle Dawdle/Forest Explorers program at https://www.familyadventuresquad.org/toddle-dawdle-forest-explorers-program
Do I have to commit for a full year? Not at all! Our flexible sign-up allows you to focus on just the current season - no need to commit to a full year.
What payment methods do you accept? Payment is made through our website's sign-up page via credit card.
Missed Outings & Make-ups
What happens if we miss an outing? Life happens! If you miss an outing, you can use a special one-time credit transfer to attend a regular-priced day trip as a make-up.
What to Expect
What should I wear? Dress for outdoor adventure! We recommend comfortable clothes that can get dirty, supportive hiking shoes, and layers for changing weather. You'll be carrying your baby, so dress for comfort and movement.
What should I bring? Always bring: baby carrier (front-facing), snacks and water for yourself, diapers/changing supplies, nursing cover if desired, sun protection, extra clothes/layers, and any comfort items your baby needs. A detailed guide will be shared after sign-up.
What baby carrier do I need? You'll need a front-facing baby carrier that you're comfortable wearing for 2-4 miles. Practice wearing it before the first outing!
What if it's raining? We hike rain or shine! The Bay Area is beautiful in all weather. Outings will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions (advisories in effect). Dress appropriately and embrace the adventure.
Is this program suitable for first-time hikers? Absolutely! The trails are gentle to moderate, and we move at a pace that works for new moms. You don't need hiking experience - just a willingness to get outside.
I'm pregnant - is this safe for me? This program is suitable for moms in their 2nd trimester onward. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity during pregnancy.
I had a C-section - is this safe for me? Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity postpartum, especially after a C-section. Most providers clear gentle walking around 6-8 weeks postpartum, but your body's healing timeline is unique to you.
For Moms
What is the moms' circle? The moms' circle is a space for moms to connect, share experiences, and discuss topics related to new motherhood with a focus on self-care. It's a judgment-free zone for support and community building.
Will I meet the same families each outing? Yes! You'll see the same moms throughout the season, building a wonderful community of support and friendship.
Do I have to participate in everything? Participate at your own comfort level! Some moms love journaling, others prefer just hiking and chatting. Do what feels good for you.
What if I'm struggling with postpartum mental health? I'm not a therapist, but I have been through postpartum PTSD and can recommend experts and programs that may help. This community can be part of your support system, but please also seek professional help if you're struggling.
Safety & Logistics
How do you ensure safety? A detailed guide about all logistics for each location will be shared after sign-up and one month before the program starts. I bring a first aid kit and am CPR-trained with Red Cross.
Do you provide snacks? No, please bring your own snacks and water for yourself. We'll have stops where you can eat, nurse, and rest.
What's your cancellation policy? The program registration is not refundable. However, a one-time credit transfer to a regular-priced day trip is available upon request.
