Mommy & Me: Bump to Baby Adventures

$275.00

When I had my daughter, the world was out of order — the COVID-19 pandemic was declared the day she was born. Everything I'd imagined — family help, making mom friends, feeling supported — went out the window. My partner and I were on our own.

As a "senior" mom at 45 years old, I didn't have mom friends, especially since I commuted 3+ hours a day for work. I hadn't had time to build a new mom community, and the isolation was tough, made even tougher by postpartum PTSD. I had nightmares of being kidnapped, of gunmen storming my home and kidnapping my daughter.

When I finally got into therapy, my therapist asked: "What did you love to do before having a child? What made you feel great?" The answer was quick and easy: HIKING.

I went on a solo hike not long after, just a fast 3-miler, and I felt like I had won the lottery. My muscles engaged, my heart pumped, and I took in gorgeous views from the Santa Cruz mountains, invigorated by the peppery bay trees and sweet coastal sagebrush. It was just what I needed.

After that, I started hiking with my daughter and getting out on my own. New mom friends wanted to join. Our group grew and grew. We had moms with infants, moms with toddlers, and we added camping and kayaking as an outdoor community of families was born.

Moms-to-be and new moms have always been such an important part of this motherhood community for me. Getting through the last days of pregnancy or the first days with a newborn can be isolating and tough. I want to help change that.

That first solo postpartum hike changed everything — and I want to help you find that same sense of yourself again.

I'm offering a chance to build community in the outdoors, get some movement, and explore beautiful local trails with other new moms and moms-to-be. (I've hiked thousands of miles in the Peninsula and South Bay!)

What happens if we miss an outing? Life happens! If you miss an outing, you can use a special one-time credit transfer to attend a regular-priced day trip as a make-up.

    What to Expect

What should I wear? Dress for outdoor adventure! We recommend comfortable clothes that can get dirty, supportive hiking shoes, and layers for changing weather. You'll be carrying your baby, so dress for comfort and movement.

What should I bring? Always bring: baby carrier (front-facing), snacks and water for yourself, diapers/changing supplies, nursing cover if desired, sun protection, extra clothes/layers, and any comfort items your baby needs. A detailed guide will be shared after sign-up.

What baby carrier do I need? You'll need a front-facing baby carrier that you're comfortable wearing for 2-4 miles. Practice wearing it before the first outing!

What if it's raining? We hike rain or shine! The Bay Area is beautiful in all weather. Outings will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions (advisories in effect). Dress appropriately and embrace the adventure.

Is this program suitable for first-time hikers? Absolutely! The trails are gentle to moderate, and we move at a pace that works for new moms. You don't need hiking experience - just a willingness to get outside.

I'm pregnant - is this safe for me? This program is suitable for moms in their 2nd trimester onward. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity during pregnancy.

I had a C-section - is this safe for me? Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new physical activity postpartum, especially after a C-section. Most providers clear gentle walking around 6-8 weeks postpartum, but your body's healing timeline is unique to you.

    For Moms

What is the moms' circle? The moms' circle is a space for moms to connect, share experiences, and discuss topics related to new motherhood with a focus on self-care. It's a judgment-free zone for support and community building.

Will I meet the same families each outing? Yes! You'll see the same moms throughout the season, building a wonderful community of support and friendship.

Do I have to participate in everything? Participate at your own comfort level! Some moms love journaling, others prefer just hiking and chatting. Do what feels good for you.

What if I'm struggling with postpartum mental health? I'm not a therapist, but I have been through postpartum PTSD and can recommend experts and programs that may help. This community can be part of your support system, but please also seek professional help if you're struggling.

    Safety & Logistics

How do you ensure safety? A detailed guide about all logistics for each location will be shared after sign-up and one month before the program starts. I bring a first aid kit and am CPR-trained with Red Cross.

Do you provide snacks? No, please bring your own snacks and water for yourself. We'll have stops where you can eat, nurse, and rest.

What's your cancellation policy? The program registration is not refundable. However, a one-time credit transfer to a regular-priced day trip is available upon request.
