Mamas — you just survived Halloween. The costumes, the sugar highs, the "just ONE more piece." Now it's YOUR turn for a treat.

We're lacing up and crossing San Francisco on foot — climbing hills, slipping onto hidden paths and discovering the wild, beautiful side of the city most people drive right past.

Let's be clear: we WILL hike. It won't be easy. San Francisco's hills don't mess around. But every climb comes with a payoff — a mural, a view, a pocket of wild green, a stack of pancakes. 🥞

THE CITY'S WILD SIDE 🌿

San Francisco is hiding a whole other world in plain sight. Tucked between the neighborhoods are wooded paths, canyon trails and hillsides covered in native plants that were here long before any of us. Towering trees. Wildflowers. Hawks circling overhead and hummingbirds working the blooms.

One minute you'll feel miles from anywhere — then you turn a corner and there's the skyline. That's the magic of this route.

WHAT AWAITS YOU 💥

🌲 Hidden Paths + Secret Stairways Forget the main roads. We'll climb mural-covered stairways, duck onto wooded trails and find shortcuts you'll be bragging about at school pickup.

🌼 Native Plants + City Critters Real nature, right in the city. We'll stop to meet the native plants and keep watch for the wildlife that thrives here. It's a naturalist's treasure hunt on every block.

🎨 Murals, Little Libraries + Hidden Gems Giant painted flowers, sweeping hillside murals, whimsical little free libraries — on foot, the whole city becomes an open-air gallery. Charge your phone. You'll want the photos.

📸 Sutro Tower Like You've Never Seen It Everyone knows Sutro Tower. We'll find the lesser-known spots where it shows off — towering overhead, framed by trees, peeking over the rooftops. Photo ops galore.

🏘️ Charming Neighborhoods We'll wander through some of the city's most charming corners: flower-lined front steps, colorful houses, cozy indie bookstores and the kind of character you only notice at walking speed.

🥞🌮🍦 The TREAT A real-deal diner serving up pancakes. An awesome taqueria. An old-school ice cream shop. Bookstores worth getting lost in. After all those hills, you've earned every bite. (Bring a little spending money — and an appetite.)

🍃 Earn Your WILD Leaf Finish the challenge and take home a hand-carved wooden leaf — WILD on one side, and a nod to Sutro Tower on the other. A keepsake for the mama who climbed every hill, and a reminder of what you can do.

🚗 We Carpool! City parking is no joke, so carpooling is strongly encouraged — more time with your crew, less circling the block. We'll coordinate the meeting spot and rides when you sign up. (Planning to leave early? Let us know so we can match you with the right ride.)

A century-old chestnut orchard in golden fall leaves and a taste of chestnut honey, then an easy lake hike with ducks, geese and an old oak to climb.

📅 SUNDAY, OCT. 25 2026 • ⏰ 2 PM — 5 PM • 📍 La Honda Area

We'll discover an historic chestnut orchard 🌰🌳, learning about its history and tasting chestnut honey 🐝🍯! Afterward, we will go on an easy 1-mile hike around a serene lake with a pretty flat path where we’ll likely encounter a gaggle of geese or a raft of ducks and kids can climb a more than century-old oak tree!

Finally, for those who are interested, we'll grab an early dinner at Alice's Restaurant. I'm reaching out to see if they can offer us a special, quick menu.

FOR CHESTNUT COLLECTING, HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT:

🌰🌳🐝 HISTORIC CHESTNUT ORCHARD: Discover a more than 100-year-old rare chestnut orchard! Rare because the American Chestnut was decimated by blight in the 1800s but this grove was protected due to its isolation! The fall leaves are a GORGEOUS GOLDEN so if you’re looking for fall leaves in the evergreen Bay Area, this is it!!! If the owner is available, he will give us a tour, but he will only know closer to the day if he can do this (he has in years past but every year is different).

🌰🍯🌰🍯🌰🍯 CHESTNUTS: Learn how to unearth chestnuts from their burrs and to sort them. You'll get to taste delicious chestnut honey and will likely get to sample a raw or roasted chestnut. Plus, you’ll leave with a recipe for roasting what are known as brown diamonds and maybe some chestnut honey or a roasting pan, if you opt to buy.

🍂🍃🍂🍃 FALL LEAVES FIX: Your kids (and you!) can run through piles of golden chestnut leaves! Get your fall "leaf" fix here!

💦🪿🌳 LAKE HIKE, DUCKS, GEESE + OLD OAKS: We will go on a 1.1-mile hike around a serene lake with a pretty flat path that is scooter- and bike-friendly for the kiddos. Along the way, we’ll likely run into a gaggle of geese or a raft of ducks (yes, that’s what a group of ducks is called!), plus the kids will get to run over wooden bridges and climb a more than 100-year-old oak tree!

🍕🍟🥗 PIZZA, PIZZA (SALAD + FRIES, TOO): We'll grab an early dinner at iconic Alice's Restaurant (I'm reaching out to see if they can offer us a special, quick menu)

🔍 SCAVENGER HUNT: Embark on a fun scavenger hunt around this historic area in the Santa Cruz Mountains
