🏕️ A SHARED FAMILY ADVENTURE: CHALLENGE. CONNECT. CELEBRATE.

Friday, Sept. 19 — Sunday, Sept. 21

Welcome to Big Sur — California's legendary "rugged edge of the world."

This mystical stretch of coastline has long captivated artists, writers and dreamers, from Henry Miller who found creative sanctuary here in the 1940s to countless others drawn to its untamed beauty.

Today, Big Sur remains a place where dramatic cliffs meet endless ocean, where ancient Redwood groves tower overhead, and where conservation efforts like the California Condor recovery program protect North America's largest flying bird as it soars above iconic landmarks like the breathtaking Bixby Bridge. Our carefully crafted family adventure will guide you through this remarkable landscape, ensuring you experience both Big Sur's wild majesty and its welcoming spirit of adventure.

September brings perfect Big Sur conditions: warm, clear days with comfortable temperatures, and the Big Sur River Gorge at good levels for exploration.

WHAT WE'LL ENJOY 🥳🥳🥳

🌊 Big Sur River Gorge Exploration 🏔️: Families with strong swimmers can explore the crystal-clear pools 💎 and granite boulders 🪨. September's lower water levels make the rock scrambling much more accessible for all skill levels 🧗‍♀️. Alternative creek activities provided for families with non-swimmers 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏞️.

🛶 Kayaking Option: Bring your own inflatable kayaks for paddling adventures near camp

🦋 Monarch Butterfly Discovery: Explore the eucalyptus grove near our campsite during the early monarch migration season

🏖️ Beach Sunset Hike: 2-mile out-and-back hike to pristine Andrew Molera Beach; play with awesome driftwood 🪵

🟣 Purple Sand Hunt: Look for purple sand!

🦋🐛🦗 Wildlife Watching: Look for forest friends. Bug hunting adventures with tiny catching kits (hope to spot Monarch butterflies in nearby eucalyptus groves!!). Learn about efforts to save the California Condor and the Bald Eagle.

📚🔍🌱 Learn about forest ecology

🎨🍃🌿 Create nature art!

🏆⭐🎖️ Earn nature explorer badges and stickers for discoveries

🗺️🌲 Itinerary for the drive!

🔍🗺️ Enjoy a scavenger hunt with your kids and educational activities for families

🎨🖍️ Toy and arts-and-craft station for the kids when we're not out exploring

🔥🍫 Enjoy classic camping fun: Campfire, stories, s'mores, stargazing and quality time away from screens (NOTE: May have to use gas stoves for fire if fire restrictions are in place at this time)

🫶🏿🫶🏾🫶🏽 Community, friendship and support: Instant 'playdate' for your kiddos! We usually have kids from toddlers up to tweens join, with all of the kids playing together! You might see old FAS friends + hopefully make some new ones, too! FAS offers all kinds of support: Need help setting up your tent? Solo parenting on the adventure and need some extra support? We got you!

This is our idea of SUMMER CAMP for kids, but it's for families and we get to explore different campgrounds and parks! You will make wonderful memories with your family and friends as you discover the stunning beauty of Big Sur's river gorge together 🏕️❤️🫂🤲🏽!!
